Dieter Thomä, born in 1959, studied philosophy, German and Romance languages in Freiburg and Berlin. After earning his Ph.D., he taught at universities in Paderborn, Rostock, New York, Berlin, and Essen. He has been a professor of philosophy at the University of St. Gallen since 2000. He writes regularly for magazines and newspapers (Literaturen, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) and has written numerous scripts for TV programs on philosophical subjects.
