Lutz Hachmeister was born in Minden, Westphalia in 1959. He read Communication Science at Münster and Berlin, taking a doctorate and qualifying as a professor in subjects relating to the media and contemporary history. Among other things, he has been an editor at the Tagesspiegel in Berlin, Director of the Adolf Grimme Institute in Marl and Director of the Cologne Television Festival. Hachmeister teaches journalism at the University of Dortmund and is a partner in the media company HMR International.
